Go Alone — A Poem

If you ever get the chance, go alone.

Dance alone, travel alone, move alone. Even if it’s just for a little while.

If you ever get the chance, learn who you are in a city where no one knows your name.

Where you are the main act of your own movie, instead of the supporting role in your friends’ lives.

We romanticize the happily ever after films, but there is something so romantic about self-discovery.

Maybe it’s because we know that time alone is just a short chapter in the book of life.

That some skip over all together, in a hurry to get past the plot twists and to the main event.

Most know how to stand on their own if they know someone is standing beside or behind them.

Don’t depend on this to move through life. You let go of your training wheels as a kid, so do it again.

When you get the chance, walk alone through the unknown.

For it just might change the course of your entire ride ahead.
